Woman dies after falling off moving pick up truck

(AURORA) Charges are pending Tuesday morning against a 17-year-old west suburban man in connection with a fatal crash Monday night in which a woman fell off the side of a moving pickup.

Ludivina Vieyra, 50, of the 1100 block of High Street in Aurora, was killed in the single vehicle crash that occurred at Pine and Assell avenues, according to a release from Aurora police. Vieyra was related to the 17-year-old, but police did not disclose the exact relationship.

The crash was the apparent culmination of an argument that the 17-year-old had with another family member at the High Street residence, police said.

When the suspect began to leave the home in a 1995 Dodge 1500 pickup, Vieyra apparently jumped on the vehicle’s passenger side running board in an attempt to stop him.

He sped away westbound on Pine Avenue with the victim still on the running board. When he hit the brakes after a couple of blocks, Vieyra was thrown to the street and suffered massive head injuries. She was taken to Provena Mercy Medical Center by Aurora Fire Department paramedics but pronounced dead shortly after arrival, police said.

The preliminary investigation did not reveal any immediate signs of drug or alcohol involvement.

The 17-year-old was being held in the Aurora police lockup Tuesday morning.
