One person was critically injured and two others were hurt in a traffic accident this morning involving two sport utility vehicles that may have been caused by sun glare in the Little Village neighborhood on the Southwest Side.
About 7 a.m., emergency personnel responded to the crash in the 2600 block of South Central Park Avenue, according to Fire Media Affairs spokesman Rich Rosado.
Three people were extricated, Rosado said. One person was taken in serious-to-critical condition to Mount Sinai Hospital, he said. Another person was taken there in good-to-fair condition. A third victim was treated and released on the scene, he said.
Police said the accident occurred in the intersection of Central Park Avenue and 26th Street when a female driver of a SUV drove east bound on 26th street and ran through a red light. That SUV then struck another SUV, causing the second vehicle to roll over, police said.
Police said the accident may have been caused by sun glare hitting the windshield of the SUV driving east. The intersection was open to traffic by 8 a.m., police said.
Police are investigating the accident.
