CLEAR CREEK COUNTY, Colo. -  The driver of an asphalt truck was killed Thursday when his truck crashed into Clear Creek while he tried to negotiate the ramp from westbound Interstate 70 onto U.S. Highway 6.

Colorado State Patrol investigators said the driver died at the scene. He was alone in the truck. They did not release his name, or the company he was driving for.

The truck spilled asphalt and fuel into Clear Creek. A State Patrol hazardous materials team along with fire departments from Clear Creek County and Georgetown responded to control the spills.

The ramp was closed during the crash investigation and clean up of the wreckage. The Colorado Department of Transportation said it reopened shortly before noon.
