Two Chicago Police officers and three civilians -- including a child -- were injured on the Far South Side Wednesday night after a police chase originating in Hammond, officials said.

Hammond police attempted to stop a man driving an SUV who was suspected of impersonating an Indiana utility worker, officials said.

Police chased the man from a location in Hammond to 134th and Green Bay. Authorities said police stopped their pursuit, but the suspect apparently continued to flee until he crashed his SUV into a vehicle at 119th and Torrence.

That vehicle, containing the civilians, then crashed into an unmarked Chicago Police car, which was not involved in the chase.

Two officers and three civilians were taken to local hospitals. No one appeared to have life-threatening injuries.

The injuries included "some bumps" and "bruises," said Fire Media Affairs spokesman Richard Rosado. The suspect, who fled on foot after the crash, was not in custody late Wednesday, officials said.
